He is the first Asian athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in the javelin throw and the first Asian to win gold in his event at the World Championships. He is the reigning World Champion from 2023 and was the 2020 Olympic champion. Chopra was the first athletics gold medallist for India at the Olympics.
